East Kilbride dairy farm teams up with popular luxury ice cream producer

An East Kilbride dairy farm is teaming up with Scottish luxury ice-cream maker Equi’s.

Auldhouse-based Park Farm's locally produced, fresh whole milk will be used in their ice cream production.

The partnership marks a huge step for two South Lanarkshire businesses to significantly reduce food miles, cut down on single use plastics and reduce emissions.

Park Farm is run by three generations of the Neilson family, who have been dairy farming for over fifty years.

Equi’s have been producing luxury ice cream in South Lanarkshire since 1922, with a commitment to using locally sourced milk and double cream.

Ross Neilson, director at Park Farm, told Lanarkshire Live: “We are delighted to be joining forces with Equi’s to supply them with our freshly produced milk.

"Customers now rightly want to know the provenance and traceability of their food.

"Our milk only travels a few metres from the farm to the new dairy so we can be completely transparent with our customers and show them exactly where their milk is coming from and how it is processed – even down to meeting the cows.”

David Equi, managaing director at Equi's Ice Cream, said: “Our ice cream has always been made with fresh Scottish milk and double cream, and this partnership further establishes our commitment to using locally sourced ingredients.

"Park Farm is less than 10 miles from our brand new, state of the art factory and HQ in Rutherglen, highlighting a huge reduction in food miles in the manufacturing of our ice cream, whilst also increasing traceability.

“We love that we can now nip up the road to visit the local cows who play a vital part in the production of our award-winning ice cream. They are extremely well cared for – they even sleep on water beds.”

The two companies have also collaborated to adopt a highly efficient and environmentally friendly method of transporting the milk – resulting in an annual reduction of approximately two and a half tons of single use plastic for Equi’s.

Park Farm also offers farm to doorstep deliveries of their freshly produced milk to homes and businesses in East Kilbride and surrounding areas via their What’s Fresh delivery service.

Equi’s Ice Cream is available to purchase in major supermarkets and independent stores across Scotland.
