DWP confirms dates for second cost of living payment

Millions of households across the country are due to receive a £324 cost of living payment this winter.

People on certain benefits or tax credits will receive financial support from the government to help with the cost of living crisis. If you’re eligible, you’ll be paid automatically in the same way you usually get your benefit or tax credits.

The £650 boost, delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), was split into two payments. The first was £326, and was due to land in bank accounts from September 20.

A further £324 can then be expected later this year. You may be eligible for the £650 if you are in receipt of any of the following:

  • Universal Credit
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit

An update on the DWP website originally said the "second payment will be no later than October 31, 2022 to be specified by the secretary of state in regulations." However, this was later updated to state that October 31 will actually be the latest possible qualifying day for the second payment, meaning it will arrive after this date.

On Monday (October 3), the DWP announced when people can expect the remaining £324. It said the payment would be delivered "Between November 8 and November 23 for most people".
