A Dumfries and Galloway social worker was applauded by dozens of councillors and officials for her national achievements.
Suzy Rook, who was recently named social worker of the year for Scotland, received special recognition at Dumfries and Galloway’s full council meeting.
Before the meeting began, council co-leader Stephen Thompson paid tribute to Suzy for picking up the honour.
He said: “Suzy was awarded the accolade at an awards ceremony in Glasgow, the Scottish Social Services Awards, which recognise and celebrate the very best in practice in social work and social care across Scotland.
“She was nominated in the social worker of the year category, a highly-contested category which recognises the very best examples of individuals demonstrating their deep commitment to the profession and going above and beyond in their role.
“Following the congratulations from the social work committee, we would like to congratulate Suzy on behalf of the whole council.”
Suzy works in the criminal justice team, which she joined in October 2021.
But her nomination also relates to her previous role in children and families, with two of the families she worked with nominating her for the award.
Meanwhile, a business in Eastriggs was also given a special mention at last week’s full council meeting.
Councillor Thompson said: “As some of you may be aware, The Devil’s Porridge Museum in Eastriggs was crowned the best visitor attraction experience in the west of Scotland and has a great chance to be voted Scotland’s best day out.
“Voting closed on December 3, and the winner will be announced at the Scottish Thistle Awards national final on February 9, 2023.
