This horrifying photo shows the aftermath of how a simple kitchen mistake can set your home ablaze.

Dublin Fire Brigade has warned of the dangers of kitchen fires through the pic after firefighters were recently called out to the scene of a kitchen fire, which was caused by cooking oil. Staff issued advice through Twitter on how best to combat household fires, asking people to take extreme care around certain items.

Dublin Fire Brigade wrote: "Never leave a chip pan, frying pan or wok full of oil unattended. If it should catch fire, use a fire blanket or damp tea towel."

Additionally, the fire service warned that pouring water on these types of fires could spell disaster. The presence of grease within most frying pans could harm bystanders if splashed around by water.

Dublin Fire Brigade has previously warned people about the risks associated with late night cooking. Staff say that firing up the grill after a few drinks can lead to a surprisingly high amount of call outs.

Those who feel peckish after a night out should consider ordering in a takeaway rather than cooking up a storm. Dublin Fire Brigade also say that heavy drinking makes people more likely to sleep through a smoke alarm if a fire results late at night.
