Police and paramedics responded to reports of a man falling 25ft onto railway tracks in the Nottingham area.
Nottinghamshire British Transport Police say the male, who was intoxicated, is lucky to have escaped serious injury after he attempted to walk along an icy wall.
Fortunately the inebriated man was extracted from the railway line by officers and an East Midlands Ambulance Service crew and had suffered only minor injuries.
Notts BTP Police tweeted at 2.36am: "Officers have attended alongside @EMASNHSTrust, a report of a male falling from height and landing on the tracks below.
"The male had decided to walk along a icy wall, whilst intoxicated and fell approx 25 feet.
"Thankfully his injuries appear minor, extraction was challenging."
