Driver 'forgets to give way' on 'dangerous' new roundabout as crash caught on camera

A car that 'forgot to give way' has crashed on a new roundabout that one frustrated resident says has become 'dangerous'. The new roundabout installed on Boothferry Road, Hull was the scene of a collision picked up on a security camera.

The footage shows the moment a silver car ignores the rule of giving way on the junction and hits a Black SUV before losing control and skidding towards the centre of the roundabout on the grass island and ends up on the wrong side of the road, reports HullLive.

The resident who caught the footage, and asked not to be named, says they hear car horns beeping "daily" after the new roundabout changed the traffic priority on the road last summer. The homeowner believes cars are failing to realise the need to give way.

There is a triangle situated on the road to alert motorists that they must give way but the concerned local says a sign would be more useful.

"East Riding Council haven't put up any give way signs and I'm wondering why," they said. "It's going to end up with someone being seriously hurt."

The work to create the new roundabout began in August 2021 after the council claimed it was needed to improve road safety. The £900,000 scheme involved reconfiguring the existing staggered crossroads.

A spokesman from East Riding Council said: "Road accidents like this should be reported to the police.

"This roundabout has been open nearly a year and there are road signs in the lead up to it, and a speed limit in place. Drivers should always stop and give way at any junction."
