Dow Jones Futures Rise As Trump Tariffs On Canada Delayed; Palantir Soars 22% On Earnings

Dow Jones futures, along with S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures, were higher ahead of Tuesday's open following Monday's stock market action.

Palantir Technologies soared Monday following the company's fourth-quarter earnings report after the market close. Palantir stock surged 22% in extended trading, on pace to hit a fresh record high if those gains carry over to Tuesday's market open.

Late Monday, Palantir reported Q4 earnings and sales that easily beat Wall Street estimates due to strength in its U.S. government and commercial businesses. Its full-year 2025 revenue guidance also beat expectations amid buzz over artificial intelligence stocks.

Another key earnings mover was NXP Semiconductor, which rallied 2% in evening trading. Shares closed Monday more than 30% off their 52-week high.

Late Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a $1.3 billion border plan that will pause President Donald Trump's tariffs for at least 30 days.

Midday Monday, President Trump granted Mexico a one-month reprieve from 25% tariffs that were set to take effect Tuesday, after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum committed to send 10,000 troops to the border to halt drug trafficking. Meanwhile, Canada said it will impose a 25% tax on about $100 billion worth of U.S. goods in three weeks, but $20 billion of those imports will face the tax starting on Tuesday.

The major stock indexes opened sharply lower Monday after President Trump signed an executive order Saturday imposing 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico and raising tariffs on Chinese goods by 10%. The tariffs are due to be enacted Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Nvidia and Tesla were big losers on the stock market today.

Nvidia tumbled nearly 3% Monday, hitting its lowest level since September. Shares are sharply below their 50- and 200-day moving average lines.

Finally, Tesla dived 5.2% to break below the 50-day line in above-average volume. That's a key level to watch for the Elon Musk-led company. Shares are about 22% off their 52-week high.

Ahead of Tuesday's opening bell, Dow Jones futures rose 0.1% vs. fair value, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.2%. Tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 0.3% vs. fair value after the tariff news. Remember that overnight action in Dow Jones futures and elsewhere doesn't necessarily translate into actual trading in the next regular stock market session.

On Monday, the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield ended a volatile session down to 4.54%. And oil prices rose modestly, as West Texas Intermediate futures settled around $72.80 a barrel.

Six of the Magnificent Seven stocks ended lower Monday, as the Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF dropped 1.7%. It is threatening to give up support at the 50-day line.

Amazon moved down just 0.1%, in buy range above a 233 flat-base entry. Earnings are due late Thursday, which could spark fresh heights for the stock, or sharp losses.
