Team Falcons may be a relatively new team in the Dota 2 competitive scene. However, it's roster are composed of veterans and their experience showed during the BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024. The team managed to sweep Team Liquid 3-0 to claim the victory and $400,00 in prize money.
Team Falcons officially became part of the Dota 2 competitive scene in November 2023. Its roster is composed of:
- Oliver "skiter" Lepko
- Stanislav "Malr1ne" Potorak
- Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf
- Andreas "Cr1t-" Nielsen
- Wu "Sneyking" Jingjun (Team Captain)
On the road to the Grand Final, Team Falcons barely made it to the Playoffs. However, it was in the Playoffs that the team started to shine. Its first two matches were against powerhouse Chinese teams but they managed to show their dominance. They were able to sweep Xtreme Gaming 2-0 and then win against Azure Ray 2-1. In the Upper Bracket Final, they went against BetBoom Team and won 2-1.
Grand Final
In the Grand Final, they faced off against Team Liquid, who had momentum going for them as they worked they way through the Lower Bracket. In the first game, it was all about skiter on Gyrocopter. His performance was truly impressive as Team Falcons ended the game with the win and him getting 15 kills with only 4 deaths. To put that into perspective, Team Liquid has a total of 17 kills as a team.
In the second game, Team Falcons again went Gyrocopter for skiter. However, unlike in the first game Team Liquid performed a bit better though it wasn't enough. Despite a good showing from Michael "miCKe" Vu, it wasn't enough as Liquid had to bow down again to Team Falcons. With Team Falcons up 2-0 and one win away from the championship, it was up to Team Liquid to step up. It looked like working their way through the Lower Bracket had Team Liquid being spent. With skiter again on Gyrocopter, it was pretty much a no brainer. Team Falcons dominated their opponents and eventually went on to win the game and with it the championship.
With the win, Team Falcons have now put themselves in the crosshairs of the other teams. We'll see how they fare leading up to the next TI.
What do you think? Did Team Falcons deserve the win?
