One person is in hospital after a suspected ammonia leak at a leisure centre.
Police and South Yorkshire Fire service were called to a “chemical incident” at the Doncaster Dome, a local leisure centre and arena this morning.
Two members of staff were on duty at the leisure centre, with one taken to hospital after a security alarm was triggered at 5am this morning in the plant works that refrigerate the ice rink in the centre.
Risk to the public is thought to be low, but anyone who lives close to the Dome has been told to keep their windows and doors shut.
The Dome said in a statement: "Two staff members who were in the venue were unharmed, but one has been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
"We can confirm that the site has now been made safe, no one suffered any harm and we do not anticipate any environmental impact.
"The Dome is expected to open at 9am today but the ice caps will remain closed for the day. We are grateful to the emergency services for their quick response."
A spokesperson for the police force told the Mirror: "Emergency services are dealing with a chemical incident at the Doncaster Dome on Bawtry Road.
"Our officers alongside South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are currently on scene treating what is believed to be an ammonia leak.
"While the risk to the public is low, residents nearby to the Dome are being urged to keep windows and doors closed.
"Firefighters were called to the incident just before 5am this morning (22 May) and are expected to remain in the area for a while and disruption to traffic and buses is to be expected."
