Dog walked in St George Park falls sick after 'consuming drugs'

A dog lover has urged people to bin their rubbish after her pet was apparently poisoned in a Bristol park. Willow the Cockapoo was on her daily morning walk in St George Park when she is suspected to have consumed discarded drugs.

When she returned home the one-year-old pooch was sick and lost the use of her legs. With that, her owner Caz Andrews rushed her to her local vet.

Caz, 40, a student from St George, told Bristol Live: "I took her to Vets4Pets in Kingswood and they kept her in all day. They said she had neurological symptoms and had suffered from toxic poisoning from cannabis or an opiate-based drug."

Caz lives near the park and does litter picks there with her 13-year-old son Spencer. She said Friends of St George Park care for it well and it is generally a safe space and not a dirty area.

But, after what happened to Willow, she is concerned that a child or another dog could suffer the same fate. She is urging people to keep the park safe.

Caz took to social media on Friday (March 25) to post: "PLEASE TAKE YOUR RUBBISH, DRUGS, CANS, BOTTLES AND ANYTHING ELSE HOME OR PUT IT IN THE BIN!! This has been the worst day ever!!

"Poor Willow has spent the day in the veterinary surgery and we are now nursing her at home hoping she will be ok. Let’s keep our parks clean, green and safe for everyone to use."

Thankfully Willow has made a good recovery. She is not the only dog to have fallen ill after eating suspected drugs.

Only earlier this month, a vet in Nottinghamshire issued a similar plea after her dog presented as "lifeless" following a walk. Having retraced their steps, she said she found a half-eaten discarded bag of cannabis along the route.
