Residents in a Nottinghamshire village have said ‘disgusting’ litter on a public footpath 'spoils the area'.
A local community group on Facebook reported the fly-tipping behind a hedge on Jessops Lane, Gedling, and described it as a ‘terrible problem’. Following the reports, neighbours have spoken out on the ‘awful’ problem which has been going on for ‘years’.
Kirsty Filsell, 35, has lived in the area for six years. She said: “It’s annoying that they can’t go to the tip. It’s disgusting. It’s [been like this] a long time.

She added that one time there was a lot of litter near the car park of Lambley Lane Park. She continued: “It’s just so annoying, most of us just go to the tip. I’ve seen a mattress down there. They think they can get away with it.”
Many locals have said the main issues are along the public footpath on Jessops Lane and near Lambley Lane Park.
Katrina Ellis, 64, said: “I’ve been here for 10 years and all this area gets fly-tipped. It’s been like this for years. The council has been cutting down the hedges. In places it is bad.”
Last year it was reported that Gedling Borough Council paid an estimated £448,000 to clean up after fly-tippers over the past two years. The council forked out the money dealing with 3,263 separate cases of the crime in Gedling between 2019 and 2021.
Another local, Thomas Cox, 51, said: “It’s always been pretty bad around here. I’m aware of the problems with fly-tipping. I think it's just lazy and spoils the area.
“It’s just a let down really. I think it’s disappointing because it’s a lovely little area with lots of dog walkers and families. I suppose it can cause quite a bit of a hazard as well, it’s just got to stop.”
A dog walker who had wished to remain anonymous, expressed how locals have had enough of it. They said: “It’s awful. I think a lot of people in the area are fed up with it to be honest. It’s ridiculous that people litter everywhere when there’s bins and tips available to use.
“It’s frustrating because no-one wants to see piles of rubbish everywhere. It’s disrespectful, these people have no respect for the area, it’s sad really.”
