“The King” Derrick Henry is the crown jewel of the Ravens’ off-season free-agent class. He’s clarified that Baltimore’s world-famous seafood makes a meal fit for a king.
Henry was asked by a reporter on Tuesday what he has enjoyed while exploring Baltimore thus far.
“I love it,” the former Tennessee Titan said. “I ain’t had a bad meal here yet. The food is good as hell.”
One could read that as Henry simply being a fan of Maryland cuisine and nothing more.
After all, Henry has a quasi-brand ambassador deal with Jimmy’s Seafood.
The Baltimore institution even features a sushi roll named after him, the “King Henroll.” On the other hand, those comments can be read as a clap back to Patrick Queen.
If that is what you see when you read between the lines, you are far from alone. This is a popular view of social media.
Let’s flashback about a week and a half ago when Queen was asked why he decided to leave Baltimore for Pittsburgh.
“It’s a better atmosphere here for me,” he answered.
“Everybody is excellent, the people are fantastic, the players are incredible, and the food spots are better. I am a big food guy. I love food.
“I am more of a true food than a seafood guy. I like meat and stuff like that. It’s just a better atmosphere for me here.””
Well, everyone loves food, so it is hard to argue with him on that point. However, seafood isn’t “true food?” Really?
The ocean covers more than 70% of the Earth and provides sustenance for many, if not most, of the people who live on islands and coastlines.
So Queen’s remarks were strange, and you knew that someone on the Ravens would eventually retort them.
It sounds like we have a call-and-response thing between Queen and Henry.
