A DEAD kitten was found underweight and covered in faeces after being abandoned in North Lanarkshire woodland, according to the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).
The animal was found in a wicker basket amid undergrowth in woodland near Foulburn Road in Shotts on Thursday.
A grey blanket and a soft toy were also found with the female kitten.
The charity said the kitten had cold meat that “tragically became lodged in her throat”.
The SSPCA is urging Scots to get in touch with them if they can no longer look after animals, rather than abandon them.
SSPCA inspector Steph McCrossan said: “We cannot stress enough that there is no excuse for abandoning an animal. There are always other options available.”
A spokesperson for SSPCA added: “If anyone recognises this kitten or has any information about her circumstances, please call our confidential animal helpline at 03000 999 999.”
