PROSECUTORS at the Crown Office have reserved the right to prosecute a former Scottish Labour council leader after confirming the case will not proceed "at this time".
Councillor Stephen McCabe stepped down from his role at the head of Inverclyde Council after appearing at Greenock Sheriff Court in November.
The 60-year-old had pleaded not guilty to charges of threatening or abusive behaviour and assault.
A trial date had been set for Monday, February 10, but the case did not go ahead.
A spokesperson for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said: “After careful consideration of all of the relevant facts and circumstances, the Procurator Fiscal decided that the case should not proceed at this time.
“The Crown reserves the right to proceed in the future.”
Labour’s Councillor Robert Moran succeeded Councillor McCabe, now an independent, as leader in December.
