Stating that COVID-19 is totally under control now, Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao said on Thursday that zero cases could be recorded in the next few days. However, he urged people to continue wearing masks if they are visiting hospitals, or have long-term illnesses.
Pointing at the countries which are currently witnessing rise in COVID cases, he said that 70% of the cases in the State were of BA.2 sub-lineage Omicron variant, and 30% were of BA.1 sub-lineage.
The daily case load in the State has dropped to below 50 for the last few days. Only 31 COVID cases were detected on Thursday. While 18,244 samples were tested, results of 786 were awaited. The new 31 cases include 23 from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
From March 2, 2020, to March 31 this year, 3.42 crore samples were tested and 7,91,284 were COVID positive. Of the total cases, 420 were active cases, 7,86,753 have recovered, and 4,111 people have died.
