Coronation Street's Adam Barlow star Sam Roberton tells what fans have been saying to him in the shop over Sarah's affair

Coronation Street star Sam Roberton has been having some interesting conversations when out and about after his on-screen wife was seen cheating on him on more than one occasion.

Adam Barlow has only just discovered that his wife, Sarah, has had multiple secret rendezvous with his client Damon Hay behind his back after her son, Harry, caught them kissing at home. Things started when Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien in the ITV soap, secretly flirted up a storm with Damon behind her husband's back.

Sarah has ended up in a web of lies after finding chemistry with the drug dealer, portrayed by Ciaran Griffiths, who had been making life a misery for her own brother on the cobbles. But despite being his brother-in-law, Adam took on Damon's case after he was caught running a drugs operation out of the Bistro.

Not knowing who he was, despite the torment he was causing her family, Sarah and Damon met weeks ago in a hotel bar, But Sarah and Damon continued to flirt wildly with Damon saying he was determined to bed her. And in scenes aired in April, viewers of the ITV soap watched in shock as Sarah and Damon did sleep together

. Afterwards, a guilty Sarah told Damon they needed to end their relationship, especially because he looked set to go to prison. But there was a twist as Adam and colleague Dee-Dee Bailey found a way to keep him from behind bars.

The legal whiz also ended up finding out about Sarah and Damon but that still doesn't appear to have stopped Sarah as next week she goes behind her husband's back once more, despite deciding they should try for a baby of their own.

But after discovering her secret lover had been in the wars and suffered a black eye, a concerned Sarah was once again drawn to Damon and at the Bistro, Sarah kissed him and they head into the office, locking the door behind them before almost being caught my Adam, Nick and Dee-Dee.

Now though, Sarah is doing all she can to win Adam back but that looks set to be derailed when she discovers she is pregnant in next week's Corrie and will be left unsure whether her husband Adam or secret fling Damon is the father.

With Adam looking set to his the self destruct button in upcoming scenes, speaking about whether he'd like Adam and Sarah to save their marriage, actor Sam said: "I would have loved to see them growing their family and living happily together.

"I love working with Tina, I think she’s great. But obviously, the writing team and the audience want to see that conflict. If they do stay together I just pray they have a period of time where the relationship is tender again and they can be kind to each other and be happy."

And Adam getting sympathy is quite an unusual situation for Sam to see for his character. "I saw it start to turn during the Lydia [Chambers] storyline last year," he said. "Suddenly the audience were on Adam’s side and this scenario is even worse for Adam so hopefully he will get a bit of sympathy because I think he deserves it."

But his latest storyline has meant he's been having some interesting conversations when away from the cobbles and out and about getting on with his own life. "I get told your wife’s a dirty so and so, your wife’s at it behind your back, do you know your wife’s having an affair?" the Scottish soap star revealed.

"You just have to laugh along with it or pretend you don’t know, it’s all fun and games, most people know it’s not real and they just want to have a bit of banter with you."
