Co Fermanagh has been named as one of the biggest ‘car graveyards’ in the UK after research showed that scrap cars to the value of £1million sit around the county.
The county was listed in the top five for having the highest number of scrap cars in the UK data from National Scrap Car shows.
Researchers identified the biggest car graveyards in the UK and uncovered the total scrap value of these SORN cars by looking into the average offer for scrap cars in each location.

The data found that the total value of scrap cars in the county sits at £1,233,273 with 229 scrap cars per 10,000 population.
Nearby towns of Omagh and Strabane were also included in the top 10 car graveyards, with 198 and 196 scrap cars per 10,000 people.
Despite the high number of scrap cars in Co Fermanagh the data also showed that the average value of a scrap car in the area was significantly lower than most other parts of the UK. While the vast majority of regions in the top 25 had an average scrap car value of more than £200, the average Fermanagh resident is only able to get £89 per vehicle.
It appeared as though rural areas in the UK are more likely to have a higher number of SORN cars per person, potentially due to the cities and urban areas having access to more public transport, less parking spaces in residential areas and more flats/apartments, giving a denser population,” analysis from National Scrap Car said.
