Co Derry man's skydive in memory of loved ones he has lost to cancer

A Co Derry duo are set to take to the skies to pay tribute to those in their family who have passed away due to cancer.

Leanne Nicholl and Adrian Nicholl from Coleraine are set to skydive from 15,000 feet after 'losing a number of people' in their family due to the disease.

Speaking to MyDerry , Leanne explained how her father-in-law, Adrian, had been fundraising for Cancer Research UK for nearly two decades.

Adrian, who is due to turn 60 this year, decided that he would take on the ultimate challenge by jumping out of a plane for charity through Skydive Wild Geese in Garvagh.

"I decided that I would also give it a go," laughed Leanne. "I don't know what I was thinking now when I look back on it because when people started giving me money it began to sink in that I would be jumping from 15,000 feet in the air in only a few weeks.

"We are all aware of the seriousness of cancer and the effect it has on many individuals today, and yet even though much scientific development has been undertaken, the fight is still not over.

"We, like many others, have been affected by cancer, and feel proud to represent this charity. We've had a couple of members of our own family who have suffered and passed away from cancer, so we wanted to find a way that we could give back to those trying to help."

She continued: "It's the least that we could do considering the incredible effort that is being taken on across the UK by everyone fighting this disease and trying to find a cure for it. There may never be a cure for cancer but we can't give up hope.

"We've been great supporters of this charity for many years and I believe that the work that they're doing is brilliant so more than anything we wanted to give back.

"It would mean so much to us and thousands of many other individuals if you would be generous enough to make a small donation to our scarily adventurous fundraiser.
