Children have thanked police officers for 'saving their lives' after an alleged domestic incident unfolded in front of them. The kids penned letters to the officers who responded to the report.
Leicestershire Police officers had been called to a domestic incident that had been considered "high risk". The ordeal had taken place in "full view of the children", temporary Chief Constable Rob Nixon said.
In a tweet, Mr Nixon detailed what he described as a "bittersweet" response to the incident, sharing images of the letters and details of the incident, Leicestershire Live reports.
While praising the cops involved in the response, he highlighted the impact that the incident would have on the children. In the letters, accompanied by drawings of police officers, the children, who have not been identified, wrote: "Thank you so much for saving our lives, it really means a lot to us." Mr Nixon confirmed in the Tweet that appropriate measures have now been taken to make sure the family are kept safe.
He wrote on Twitter: "It is wonderful to see how brilliantly the officers provided care for the children but sad that this will be a life experience they will never forget. Massive thank you to all the officers involved.
"Utterly professional, caring and clearly impactive." Operational Command Inspector, Nadia Rana, added in response: "Sometimes we never realise the true impact we have on people's lives. These pictures paint a thousand words."
A 46-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident was released on bail, a spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said.
