Cheapest supermarket in the UK named and its not Lidl or Asda

The cheapest supermarket in the UK this month has been named.

Consumer group Which? found that Aldi was the cheapest supermarket for the ninth month in a row. The research compared the price of the same basket of items at different supermarkets.

Aldi was the cheapest overall, with the shop costing £74.81 - beating its rival discounter Lidl by £2.69. The most expensive supermarket in the monthly price comparison was Waitrose. At £96.59, the same shop was £21.78 more expensive at Waitrose than at Aldi.

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi, said: "As the cost of living crisis continues, we remain committed to keeping prices low and quality high. The latest findings from Which? show that once again customers can save money by choosing to shop with us. We're thrilled to have been consistently named cheapest supermarket for the last nine months."
