A huge sinkhole at Murano Place in Leith caused major issues for an Edinburgh City Council bin lorry last night when it became 'stuck' sparking an emergency response.
According to an eyewitness: "The sinkhole opened up as a council bin lorry reversed over it, threatening to swallow it, and the adjacent cars".
Dramatic pictures that were taken at the scene last night appear to show a huge bin lorry leaning into a red car.
It is understood that the council had to send out a George McPhie and Son recovery vehicle to the scene to tow the bin lorry out of the hole.
Further pictures taken by Edinburgh Live this morning show the aftermath of the incident, with the crater now covered up with some barriers.
Last night a Leith local shared a video of the sinkhole, which is just outside Murano House student accommodation, surrounded by police as they attempted to navigate the bin lorry out of trouble.
Shocked residents reacted to the video, with one person penning: "I've travelled to some pretty places around the world - the roads are the worst I have ever seen."
Another person added: "Good auld Leith spending millions on Leith walk trams but the roads are sh*te".
"And we have to make sure out motors are fit for the road. The roads are utter pi*h," added another.
Edinburgh City Council and the police have been contacted for comment.
