We've all been making a big blunder when it comes to our mashed potatoes on Christmas Day, a celebrity chef has announced.
Andrew Rudd said we've been getting it all wrong when it comes to serving up the welcome extra side dish on December 25.
There are a number of elements to take care of on the day, with the turkey, ham, gravy, roast potatoes, and Brussels sprouts - not to mention stuffing, vegetables, and any starters or desserts you have on the go.
Andrew has been speaking to RSVP Live and moved to clarify a few things.
He revealed that his top tip is to cook your mashed potatoes on Christmas Eve, well in advance of the rush of December 25. He also uses a hand blender, something he learned from his parents at home in County Laois, Ireland.
Obviously, the turkey and ham are the most important elements of Christmas Day dinner - but getting the mash right is ultra important and there is no need to add any extra stress on yourself.
He said: "You can prepare your mashed potatoes the day before Christmas as well.
"Cook your potatoes as normal, if you have a ricer make sure you use it. If not, a regular masher will work.
"A hand blender or a paddle are also great tools, my mam and dad used these for years.
"Get a small saucepan and add in cream, milk, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Put the potato on the hob and gradually add that mix with spatula."
The key to knowing your mashed potatoes are ready comes down to getting the texture just right. And preparing them in advanced means you can save time and focus more on them as well.
He said: "It should turn out beautiful and smooth. When you feel like you have got the right texture then you are ready to serve it.
"It is a great idea to cook the mash the day before because it is one less thing to do on the day."
