Cedarville University student Grace Maxwell was among the 60 passengers on the American Airlines plane that collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport earlier this week. Maxwell, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering at the university located outside of Columbus, Ohio, was described as a quiet person with a passion for helping others through engineering by her advisor, Tim Norman.
Cedarville University President Thomas White expressed deep sorrow over Maxwell's tragic passing, stating, 'We grieve, and we’re sad, and we don’t know why a young, bright, shining star was taken from us way too soon. But we know there’s a God that will make all things new. So we grieve, but not as ones without hope.'

Reports indicated that Maxwell was returning to school after attending her grandfather's funeral in Wichita, Kansas. The entire Cedarville University community mourns the loss of Maxwell, a promising student with a bright future ahead.
