Cause of death of schoolboy found dead in Las Vegas suitcase is shared by authorities

The cause of death of a schoolboy who was found dead in a 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas ' suitcase has been revealed by authorities.

The body of an unidentified boy, who is believed to be around five-years-old, was found in a suitcase by a mushroom hunter in the middle of a wooded area in Washington County, Indiana, last month.

The child, who was 4ft (121cm), was described as clothed and clean when he was placed in the 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas' hardshell suitcase.

Indiana State Police have now released a statement confirming the young boy died from an electrolyte imbalance, which is thought to have been caused by a stomach virus, according to an autopsy report.

Police authorities have been unable to identify the boy despite receiving lots of tips from the general public. (CBS)

The authorities confirmed the schoolboy had no significant traumatic injuries, and his blood toxicology was negative.

Police found no evidence the boy was alive at the time and they're still unclear how long he had been placed in the 73cm long suitcase - or who left him there.

The authorities have been unable to identify the boy despite receiving tip-offs from the general public.

Cops described the schoolboy as a slender-built black boy with short hair - with detectives believing the young boy could be from another state or country.

The suitcase was also found approximately 80 feet from the nearest road, according to authorities.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Carey Huls previously said: "Despite the numerous news articles and TV coverage and social media posts, we don't have that answer (about his identity).

"And that is our number one goal is to find out the identity and the name of the child, and he deserves ... to be heard.

"Somebody was taking care of him. He was in somebody's custody and care for his daily needs and for support. ... Somebody out there either knows and isn't saying something or just hasn't had the opportunity to see this in the media yet and they don't know that they need to call somebody."
