Cam Newton has some good advice for Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has walked in Jayden Daniels’ shoes. The former NFL quarterback, much like the current Washington Commanders rookie QB, has won the Heisman Trophy, been a high NFL draft pick and experienced NFL success.

The 2015 NFL MVP is now out of football despite being only 35 years old. These days, Newton hosts the “4th&1show” podcast, discussing the NFL, among other things.

In his most recent episode, Newton gave some advice to Daniels, who is off to a historic start early in his NFL career.

“Dear Jayden Daniels, don’t drink the Kool-Aid; trust me, it’s a trap,” Newton said. “Whatever the f–k you’ve been doing, keep doing. Don’t listen to how they build you up. Lock the f–k in and keep f—–g playing your ass off. That’s the only thing I would be able to tell him right now.”

This is actually terrific advice. Daniels doesn’t appear to be the type of person or player to believe his own hype. He often defers to teammates and coaches and praises them for great game plans, the offensive line for protecting him and his playmakers for making plays.

Daniels is praised for his selflessness and hard work, and always listens when older players or teammates give him advice. Newton offers excellent advice from someone who has walked a similar path.

Newton closed with one more piece of advice for Daniels.

“Jayden Daniels, bro, you’re playing great football. Do not buy in the hype, bro,” Newton said. “This is a long season. This is just the completion of the first quarter of the season…….can you keep it up?”

Regardless of what one thinks of Newton’s career or how he was a different player than Daniels, it’s still excellent advice.
