All trams on the Bury Metrolink line have been suspended due to the heatwave's soaring temperatures, transport bosses have revealed. Delays elsewhere on the network due to the weather are also being reported.
Metrolink revealed 'severe weather conditions' had led to the closure of the Bury line, as temperatures in the region push towards a sweltering 40C. Damage, they said, had been caused to the overhead power lines.
There are also no trams operating between Abraham Moss in Cheetham Hill and Manchester Victoria.

"Due to the adverse weather conditions, there are currently no services operating between Abraham Moss - Victoria. Tickets and passes are being accepted on the 97, 98, 135, 524 bus services."
The developments come after speed restrictions of 15mph were implemented on certain stretches of the network, believed to be in response to fears of metal tracks buckling and twisting in the heat.
"Speed restrictions, of 15mph in some locations, are now in place on parts of the Metrolink network. Journeys will take longer, so please allow additional time for travel.
"Ensure you have a bottle of water with you and keep checking our Twitter for the latest information."
Trams every 12 minutes will be in force for the remainder of the day and throughout Tuesday across the network, with Metrolink saying: "This is to ensure that we can operate a reliable and frequent service during the hot weather.
"We will operate as many double services as possible to provide additional capacity and space on board."
Minor delays were also reported this evening on the Altrincham line - between Deansgate-Castlefield and Altrincham - in both directions, together with a points fault leading to delays on the Rochdale via Oldham line.
"Services travelling in both directions between Victoria and Rochdale Town Centre are affected," said Metrolink online. "Metrolink apologises for any inconvenience this may cause."
The Manchester Evening News has contacted Transport for Greater Manchester for comment.
