Browns add QB depth by signing veteran Jeff Driskel

One day after securing a playoff berth, the Browns have added more veteran depth to the quarterback position. With only two healthy quarterbacks on the active roster, the team decided to sign veteran backup Jeff Driskel off the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad.

Driskel has started games for four different teams in his career, beginning with the Bengals in 2018. He then played for Detroit, Denver, and Houston before being on the Cardinals practice squad this year. He has appeared in 23 games with 11 starts and has totaled 2,228 yards with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The move makes sense with the playoffs looming after rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson went on IR. The team doesn’t want to enter the playoffs with only two healthy QBs and now gets the extra rest and one final week to get Driskel up to speed in case he is needed. Hopefully, he isn’t needed and Joe Flacco continues to play elite football.
