British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on Monday that he will speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to express “solidarity with Israel” in the face of Iran’s attack and discuss how to “prevent further escalation.”
During a session at the House of Commons, Sunak emphasized the urgent need to de-escalate the situation and prevent additional bloodshed. He stated, “We are working urgently with our allies to de-escalate the situation and prevent further bloodshed. We want to see calmer heads prevail and we are directing all our diplomatic efforts to that end.”
Sunak stressed the importance of all sides showing restraint and highlighted that G7 leaders will collaborate to coordinate diplomatic measures in the upcoming days.
The British prime minister condemned Iran for its actions, describing the attack as an unprecedented and reckless escalation that directly targeted Israel. He expressed concern over Iran's attempts to destabilize the Middle East and plunge the region into a new crisis.
As tensions continue to rise, Sunak's statements underscore the significance of diplomatic efforts and international cooperation in addressing the situation and preventing further escalation.
