British Airways flight makes emergency landing at Scottish airport

A BRITISH Airways flight has made an emergency landing at a Scottish airport after signalling a mid-air alert.

The BA flight was travelling from Reykjavik, Iceland, to London Heathrow on Friday before it sent out an emergency call.

The plane, which left Reykjavik Airport at 11.44am on Friday, was due to arrive in London at around 3pm.

A squawk 7700 code was issued from the passenger plane, which signals there is an emergency onboard, about an hour and a half into its journey after it left Iceland.

A squawk code is used to identify an aircraft that has a possible issue and allows it to have priority over other air traffic in the area.

The alert was signaled over the Highland town of Ullapool and the plane was diverted towards Inverness Airport where it landed safely at around 1.29pm.

The National understands that a passenger had taken unwell and was removed from the flight at Inverness Airport.

The BA flight then continued its journey to its planned destination of Heathrow Airport.
