A brave teenager has recalled how he thought he'd lose his lip in a horrific attacked by a shark on holiday.
The teenager was set on by the nurse shark during a family holiday, with his parents Kent and Rhiannon recalling his face of "pure terror" as he made his way back to the family boat and begged for help.
ITV's Good Morning Britain aired a chat with 13-year-old boy, Fischer Hricko - who hails from Oviedo- during the show this morning. He was attacked during a trip to Florida Keys with his parents and he has recalled the moment where he was set on by the nurse shark and feared he would end up losing his whole lip.
Speaking on the ITV breakfast show today, he said: "I basically pulled the shark off my face and it broke [my mask]. I thought I was really injured I thought my whole lip was off but it wasn’t too bad luckily.
"It was really crazy when it happened - I really thought I was going to die."
The brave teenager swam to the boat where his family were and they made a beeline to the hospital, where he was given a total of ten stitches to his upper lip and chin. His dad recalled how he had a face of "pure terror" on his return.
Dad Kent shared: "And then when I realised that he got bit by a shark he was really in tears and pure terror and I couldn’t protect him," whilst mum Rhiannon added: "He was just saying, 'Mum, shark! Get me out of the water!' you know just screaming at the top of his lungs. A mum knows that sound and it was pretty awful."
Viewers tuning into the show took to Twitter to vent their disbelief at what happened.
"Shark attacks are so rare, yet GMB are losing their mind. If you swim in the seas of hotspot areas,it shouldn’t be a surprise if someone rarely gets attacked. Do you know what’s more deadly than sharks? Jellyfish, falling coconuts, dogs (yet we aren’t culling dogs) etc etc #gmb," one person wrote on social media.
A second added: "If you want Nurse Sharks? Go to Cancun, Mexico. Loads of them in the shallows where tourists are in waist deep water. One of the most peaceful of the sharks #gmb."
"They were told the sharks were ‘completely safe’ lol what?! This family are surprised a shark then bit one of them because they literally believed these huge carnivorous predatory animals wouldn’t bite anyone swimming around in their territory? Ugh please. #GMB @GMB, " a third shared, with a fourth writing: "Human jumps into the home of sharks and gets bitten. What a shock. #gmb."
