A teenager died in a tragic school accident when he was impaled by a goal post during his gym class.
Brayden Bahme, 16, died on Thursday after the horrific incident at Cheney High School in Washington, US.
School officials say he was running during the class when he fell over and somehow impaled his eye on a section of the post.
Emergency services arrived at the school within minutes and rushed Brayden to a children's hospital where he died from his injuries.
Cheney High School thanked paramedics and members of the community who came to Brayden's aid.
Staff also sent a message to the school community as they come to terms with the tragic loss.
The statement read: "While it is important to allow all the opportunity to experience grief, it is also important to maintain as normal a routine as possible regarding school activities.
"There may be a variety of reactions to the unforeseen loss of Brayden and reactions to loss do not have a timeline."
Brayden's family have launched a GoFundMe page in an effort to raise funds for immediate costs.
"It is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to Brayden," loved ones wrote on the page.
"Our entire family appreciates the outreach of support."
The page explains that funds will be used to take care of Brayden's final burial arrangements and the family's immediate needs.
"All remaining funds will be used for a youth fishing program in honour of Brayden 'fish pockets' Bahme," it adds.
Brayden's dad Steven shared a photograph of his son's friends holding a sign that read "Love 4 Brayden."
His aunt Holly said "heaven gained an angel" in am emotional tribute on Facebook.
She wrote: "As you can imagine this is a tragic loss and his parents and siblings appreciate your grace in giving them time and space as they mourn.
"They asked that instead of spreading sadness and anger, we share love and our favourite memories of Bray."
