Boris Becker says he 'hit rock bottom' and breaks down in tears in documentary trailer

Boris Becker will be seen in tears days before being jailed in new documentary about his fall from grace.

The tennis legend was jailed in April for two and a half years for hiding £2.5million of assets and loans to avoid paying debts.

In a trailer for an Apple TV+ documentary, he tells the cameras: “I’ve hit my, my bottom. I don’t know what to make of it. I face it, you know, I’m not gonna hide or run away. I accept what sentence I get.

“It’s Wednesday afternoon, (on) Friday I know the rest of my life.”

He was sentenced on Friday April 29. Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney and the filmmakers had special access to Becker for more than three years.

The untitled two-parter “aims to explore every aspect of the man” who became a sensation when he won Wimbledon at 17, going on to win 49 career titles including six Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal, as well as his high profile, sometimes tumultuous personal life.

The filmmakers have had special access to Becker for more than three years, until late April 2022, when he went into prison for hiding assets and loans to avoid paying his debts.

The case centred on Becker’s bankruptcy in June 2017 resulting from an unpaid loan of more than £3m on his luxury estate in Mallorca, Spain.

When sentencing, Judge Deborah Taylor said he had shown no remorse or acceptance of guilt.

Referring to Becker’s previous conviction for tax evasion in Germany in 2002, she told him: “You did not heed the warning you were given and the chance you were given by the suspended sentence and that is a significant aggravating factor...

“You have... sought to distance yourself from your offending and your bankruptcy.

“While I accept your humiliation as part of the proceedings, there has been no humility.”

No release date was given for the new AppleTV+ documentary.
