MUMBAI: The BMC has plans to start Shiv Yoga Kendra’s across the city free of cost from June 1 onwards. It has been decided that the local ward offices will monitor these sessions.
The BMC had first in the civic budget for the year 2022-23 announced the setting up of 200 Shiv Yoga Kendras under the ‘Better health through yoga’ plan. It had said that Shiv Yoga centre is being set up to spread awareness regarding physical and mental health in the old and the young population.
A budget provision of Rs 25 crore for capital expenditure and Rs 5 crore for revenue expenditure was proposed in the budget.
The yoga classes could be arranged at BMC schools, marriage halls, ward offices, and any public open space. The BMC's only condition is that yoga classes will be started if there is a group of 30 people. The classes will be conducted during morning hours for which the group would only need to bring their mats or required equipment.
