Best vitamin gummies for adults to supplement your intake

Vitamins and supplements have become a staple in our daily wellness routines, with many now opting for the convenience of gummies over traditional pills.

These chewable alternatives not only target a wide range of health concerns but also provide a tastier way of taking your daily dose of nutrients. With their soft texture and a variety of shapes, sizes and flavours, gummy vitamins are a more palatable option for those who struggle with swallowing tablets or sticking to a supplement regimen.

We spoke with nutritionist and author Tina Lond-Caulk for expert tips on choosing the healthiest gummy vitamins for your needs.

What are the benefits of vitamin gummies?

“Vitamin gummies are easier to take, particularly for seniors and those who have difficulty swallowing tablets, plus their sweet taste makes them more enjoyable and not a chore,” says Lond-Caulk. “They come in a wide range of formulations to address various health needs, from multivitamins to immune support and specific nutrients like vitamin D or magnesium,” she adds.

Are there any ingredients that we should avoid in vitamin gummies?

The main thing to be wary of is the sugar content, as some gummies contain a surprising amount of sugar to enhance their flavour.

“Try to avoid gummies that have added sugars, fructose or corn syrup because these ingredients can lead to issues like weight gain, tooth decay or insulin resistance,” advises Lond-Caulk. “Be cautious of artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose, and acesulfame K as well as sugar alcohols like xylitol and sorbitol, which may cause bloating, gas and abdominal pain in large quantities. It’s always worth checking the label for any unwanted additives like dyes and preservatives. They are generally regarded as safe in small amounts, but overconsumption of these can disrupt the gut microbiome,” she says.

While gummies can be tempting, stick to the recommended dose and be mindful of mixing different supplements, as you risk doubling up on ingredients, which could lead to nutrient overload.

What should we look for in a healthier vitamin gummy?

“Try to pick gummies made with natural sugars like stevia, honey, isomalt, agave and maltitol, as these tend to be gentler on the gut,” shares Lond-Caulk.

“Be sure to check the label for limited additives – go for products that are free from artificial colours, preservatives and unnecessary fillers. Lastly, choose brands that are transparent about their ingredients and use high-quality, responsibly sourced nutrients.”
