Best value supermarket dine in deals for Valentine's day - and it's not Tesco or M&S

As the most romantic time of the year looms, many of us are preparing plans for getting together with that special person. And instead of going out to a restaurant this Valentine’s Day, many are opting for the more affordable option of a cosy night in.

And if you were hoping to eat out but are yet to reserve a table, well, there’s a good chance you’ll be dining at home, too, with many Manchester venues fully booked for the special occasion.

To help shoppers celebrate February 14 at home, most of the major supermarkets have launched their Valentine’s dine in for two deals, which see couples get a cut-price three course meal, meaning that sacrificing romance isn't necessary.

With this in mind, experts at Insinkerator have taken a look at all of the deals from Morrisons, Asda, Waitrose, M&S and Tesco to see which supermarket dine-in deals are the best value for money overall.

To find the best, the most expensive combination in the meal deal has been added together, then compared with the offer price, also taking into account other factors such as whether there is a vegetarian option available and any additional savings.

So, which store should you dash to tonight to pick up your dine-in dinner for Valentine’s Day? Here are the results.

Both Marks and Spencer and Tesco failed to make the podium, ranking at the bottom overall, though that’s not to say they aren’t still offering a tasty saving.

Tesco Clubcard holders can grab themselves a dine-in option for just £12, making it the cheapest of them all. However, this one doesn’t come with a starter, and instead features a main, side, dessert and drink.

We tried out the deal for ourselves and considered it not too shabby, and at just £6 a head for a meal and drink to share, you can’t complain. However, when you tot up the value of the most expensive combination, you’ll only actually save £10.35 overall.

As in previous years, M&S has a higher price point of £20, with shoppers saving £16.75 when purchasing their most expensive dine-in combination, which features a starter, main, side, dessert and drink.

Coming in third was Waitrose’s dine in deal, which is also £20. This shop had the second highest overall saving of £18.95 on their most expensive combination, meaning this deal is great value for money.

There is plenty of choice for hungry diners who fancy celebrating Valentine's Day with a dine-in option, here are offerings from Waitrose which includes a delectable main of slow cooked duck with apple ketchup (Waitrose)

Despite having the second highest saving, Waitrose was beaten to second place by Asda, who may not have had quite as big of a discount, but are offering extra goods that boosted their rating.

The supermarket’s dine in deal costs £15, which is less than half the RRP of it’s most expensive option, and includes one starter, a main, two sides, a dessert, a drink or a box of chocolates AND a Sky store voucher worth £5.49, which means you can enjoy dinner and a movie, all from the comfort of your sofa for the ultimate date night in.

Leading the pack this Valentine's Day is Morrisons, with a saving of £20.45 for the most expensive combination available. Shoppers can save more than the cost of the deal (£15) with this dine-in option, which gives customers one starter, a main, two sides, dessert and a drink.

Out of the five options, this was one of two that offered the option for two sides, meaning you won’t need to squabble over which you’re going to pick.

So, where did your go-to supermarket rank and will you be dining in with a supermarket meal deal this Valentine’s?
