Beirut’s international airport has recently faced a series of flight cancelations following heightened tensions in the region. The cancellations were a result of Israel's promise to retaliate after a rocket attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that tragically claimed the lives of at least 12 children.
The affected flights were those scheduled to depart from various cities including Athens, Stockholm, Dusseldorf, Addis Ababa, Ankara, Antalya, and Adana on Monday, as confirmed by Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport early Monday.
Furthermore, Middle East Airlines also reported delays for flights originating from London, Copenhagen, Doha, Damma, Dubai, and Jeddah bound for Beirut.
In addition to the cancellations and delays, flights from Cairo and Istanbul to Beirut were also affected, with the airport announcing further delays for these routes.
Travelers to and from Lebanon have been advised to exercise caution, with the US State Department issuing a security alert for American citizens. The advisory stresses the need for close monitoring of flight schedules due to the rapidly changing and complex security environment in Lebanon. Airlines are reportedly contemplating temporary adjustments to their flight operations in response to the situation.
