A mum claims she and her young daughters were forced out of their new home after allegedly finding bedbugs crawling out of skirting boards.
Emily Bushby, 21, has now moved back to her former flat after raising her concern with her housing association BPHA.
A spokesperson for the group said a pest management had not found evidence of bedbugs in the walls, floors, or furniture. They said they have been unable to confirm an infestation at the property, reports Cambridgeshire Live.
But Miss Bushby said she discovered bedbugs coming out from the skirting board days after moving into property in Trumpington, Cambridgeshire, on March 24.
Miss Bushby, whose daughters are aged two and three, said: "I got bedbug spray and sprayed everything down and then I got clear silicone and filled up the skirting boards and then I woke up covered in bites."
"This was a few days later and I knew nothing was really working."
The mum said she did not take any pictures or video of the bedbugs because "it was such a chaotic time".
She said: "We just wanted to get out really – the whole place was just making my skin crawl."
The family was moved into a hotel while BPHA dealt with the apparent infestation. They were meant to be there for a few days but ended up staying for 11 nights between April 6 and April 17.
A BPHA spokesperson said: "On April 6, we received a report from a customer that she had found bedbugs in her home two weeks after moving in. We took immediate action and we arranged for her to stay in a hotel from that day until after her home had been treated."
The family then moved back into Miss Bushby's former flat after giving notice to bpha. Two weeks after the mum and kids moved back in, Miss Bushby allegedly found a bedbug in her daughter's hair.
She said she believed the bedbug had come from the Trumpington house in her furniture when she moved back to the flat.
"I lived here for three years before and never had a sign of a bedbug," she said.
A BPHA spokesperson said: "Eliminating bedbugs requires three separate treatments. Professional Pest Management, who carried out the first treatment at [the property], found no evidence of bedbugs in the walls, floors or furniture, which means we've been unable to confirm that there was an infestation.
"Before the two remaining treatments were carried out, the customer decided to move out.
"We're sorry that the customer isn’t satisfied with how this has been dealt with."
The housing association added the complaint was not fully closed until a final response letter was received by the customer and that their service improvement team would contact Miss Bushby to discuss her case further.
