There’s some good and bad news for the Chicago Bears defense. While star linebacker Roquan Smith returned to practice for the first time since minicamp, the team will be without a star rookie defensive back.
According to head coach Matt Eberflus, safety Jaquan Brisker has a right hand injury. There is no timetable for his return.
Brisker didn’t play in Thursday’s preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, and he hasn’t practiced since before the preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Brisker made a strong impression in his preseason debut against the Chiefs, where he was all over the field for Chicago. He showed his ability as a physical, instinctual, ball-hawking safety. Brisker totaled 4 tackles, including 1 tackle-for-loss, as well as a pass breakup. He almost nearly had an interception.
Given there’s no timetable for return, it’s hard to know exactly when Brisker will be ready for action. But he wasn’t likely to play in the preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns. The hope is Brisker will be ready to go for the Week 1 opener against the San Francisco 49ers.
