BBC One Sherwood premiere sees stars and hundreds of people turn up to cinema

Hundreds of people and a selection of famous actors turned up to the Nottingham premiere of a new prime-time BBC show. A host of stars from the programme, including David Morrissey, and some lucky fans, went to the premiere of new BBC drama Sherwood on Monday, June 6 at Broadway Cinema, Nottingham.

Inspired in part by two brutal murders which took place near the village of Annesley Woodhouse in 2004, Sherwood sees two killings shatter an already fractured community and spark a massive manhunt. The thriller features The Walking Dead star David Morrisey, Joanne Froggatt and Perry Fitzpatrick who will all be among the cast attending the exclusive screening ahead of its broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Monday, June 13.

The event included a preview of the first episode of the six-part drama, followed by a Q&A session. Excited attendees to the Sherwood premiere said they were looking forward to seeing a local story on prime time TV.

Yvonne Cottingham, 66, from Carlton said: “I think that it is the local aspect that makes it interesting. Some people can remember bits of the history or if they’re younger maybe not, but the local context will be good. I think it could take off, I have been telling all my friends about it. There’s not a lot of TV based here now so it would be good to have something here.”

Anne Murphy, 60, from Gedling said: “I’m interested in what they do with the story and how much it’s fiction and real. I also read a review that said it had a lot of emotional acting."

Liz Lowe, 65, from Gedling, added: “I love crime stuff so I’m looking forward to it. We had Landscapers as well on TV."

Julie Haynes,63, from East Leake, said: “I’m really looking forward to it. The fact it is based in this county and a time I lived through adds a lot to it. I will be interesting to see it all on the TV - I have a friend who was a police officer there at that time. The region is a bit neglected on TV so it’s nice to see it appear. It should be good because the cast is great and it’s a prime time slot.”
