Hot on the heels of the first major patch, Larian released Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 2 with performance upgrades and a new ending for Karlach. Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 2 is live now on PC and will be included in the PS5 edition when that version launches on Sep. 6, 2023, and the Xbox version whenever it releases.
The biggest new feature is a modified ending for Karlach, which is very spoilery. Larian tagged it in the patch notes, but the gist is that instead of an alternate ending, it’s more of an expanded ending that gives Karlach a richer, deeper sendoff.
The other major feature is Withers’ Wardrobe of Wayward Friends, a fun name for the ability to dismiss friends from your co-op party. It’s a fix for a problem where friends lingered and took up party slots when your friend wasn’t even playing.
New icons make it easier to distinguish which gear in your inventory you’re using, You can sort inventory items by rarity now, managing complex spells is easier, and the “Your Turn” tag says whose turn it actually is. Steam Deck default settings should work more effectively now, thanks to tweaks made to the camera rotation and video settings.
Patch 2 also implements some performance changes, as Larian promised. The intent is removing the stutters and load problems many players experienced throughout the game, but especially in Act 3, when you actually arrive in Baldur’s Gate. Some of the specifics include shifting which threads handle certain loads and fixing memory leaks.
There’s a lot here, like with the first patch – fixes ranging from UI alterations and bug tweaks to changes in cinematics and more. You can check out the full list on Steam if you’re interested.
