Baby boy found safe in Enfield after allegedly being taken in stolen car from Klemzig

The mother and baby have now been reunited.

A mother has been reunited with her four-month-old baby boy after he was taken in a stolen car in Adelaide this morning.

SA Police said the Honda Jazz was stolen about 7:45am from in front of a deli on Fourth Avenue in Klemzig.

The baby was inside the car when it was taken.

Police alleged the man who took the car had jumped out of a grey Mazda ute and into the car before taking off.

The 29-year-old woman driver of the Honda — the boy's mother — was inside the deli at the time.

The car was found by police on Wilkinson Court in Enfield at 10:09am, Superintendent Matt Nairn said.

"Thankfully seated in the rear was the child," he said.

Paramedics attended the scene, but Superintendent Nairn said the boy was "safe and well".

"It is a great relief to SA Police to reunite mum and child," he said.

"As I reiterate, a four-month-old, you can imagine the distress that that caused mum."

In a statement, police said the baby would be checked by a doctor at the Women's and Children's Hospital.

"We are looking at illegal use and kidnapping, potentially, for the primary offences, but you imagine from any parent's point of view, it's more than distressing the child would be taken under any circumstances."

Police not blaming mother but 'be careful'

Superintendent Nairn said it was a reminder to parents to "be careful", but reiterated that no blame was being placed on the mother.

"I don't believe the mother's done anything wrong in that context," he said.

"I think in this case everything has been done by the offender or suspect, so not apportioning any blame to the mum at all.

"Mum's done her absolute best."

Police said the alleged thief and the woman did not know each other.

Superintendent Nairn said there was a device in the car that police could track but it was "limited".

Police said the ute was stolen from Black Forest about 6am.

The owner of the Fourth Ave Deli, who only wanted to be known as Allan, earlier said the mother was "hysterical" and ran outside as soon as she saw her car backing out.

"I thought she was going to run in front of the car but she just stepped back a bit," he said.

"But she was right alongside the car when he took off that way.

"[I] couldn't sort of see him — he had a black mask on, a surgical mask."
