Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala celebrated its Founder’s Day on Saturday. Inaugurating the celebrations, Minister for Health Veena George described Arya Vaidya Sala founder Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier as a front-runner of the social reformation that the State witnessed in the 20 th century.
She said Vaidyaratnam had made social interventions with the objective of empowering society, irrespective of caste and religion. She also remembered the role of Aryavaidyan P.K. Warrier in taking Arya Vaidya Sala to further heights of glory.
Offering the government’s unstinted support, Ms. George said that Ayurveda could play a significant role in strengthening people’s immunity and addressing life-style diseases.
K. Abid Husain Thangal, MLA, presided over the function. Former Jharkhand Governor Prabhat Kumar delivered the Founder’s Day address. He said government and private collaborative efforts could contribute a lot to society.
Journalist Venkitesh Ramakrishnan and dramatist Omchery N.N. Pillai commemorated P.S. Varier. Arya Vaidya Sala managing trustee and chief physician P.M. Varier welcomed the gathering. Chief executive officer G.C. Gopala Pillai made the introductory remarks. Joint general manager (corporate affairs) P. Rajendran proposed a vote of thanks.
Prof. Thangal released a two-volume souvenir brought out as part of the 150 th birth anniversary celebrations of P.S. Varier. The 500-page souvenir contains memories of Vaidyaratnam as well as the history of his period.
Mr. Prabhat Kumar released a book on P.K. Warrier penned by Vivek Vijayan titled “As Memory Unfolds”. Mr. Venkitesh Ramakrishnan released a book titled “Keraleeya Drisyavediyum P.S. Variyarude Sangeetanatakangalum” authored by N. Biji.
P.M. Varier gave away the annual awards given to Ayurveda scholars and winners of national essay competitions.
