Arthur's Hill death probe: Police and forensics search home after man found dead

An investigation is today under way after a man was found dead in in a Tyneside home.

Police say they were called to the property, in the Arthur's Hill area of Newcastle, at around 6am on Monday morning.

The death is currently being treated as "unexplained" and an investigation is under way.

On Monday morning, the house, on Dilston Road, was cordoned off by police with one officer standing guard outside.

Meanwhile a stretch of nearby Brighton Grove was also taped off with forensics examining the scene and placing down numbered evidence markers.

People living in the area said they did not know what was going on while two local shopkeepers said police had been into their stores asking to view CCTV.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Shortly after 6am today we received a report of concern for the welfare of a man at an address on Dilston Road, Newcastle.

“Emergency services attended the scene and found a man who was deceased. His death is currently being treated as unexplained and a full investigation has been launched.

“An increased police presence is in the area as officers carry out enquiries."

Charlie Khan heard the commotion on Brighton Grove.

The 28-year-old said: “I woke up this morning and I could hear the police radios outside the house. I asked what was happening and they just said there had been an incident.

“They basically said there had been a big incident, but I don’t know what’s happened.

“It’s not a shock to me because as a kid I lived on Croydon Road when the two students were murdered.

“That’s just the West End for you, but it’s still not nice to hear. I feel sorry for the person and their family.”

Forensics officers later arrived at the property on Dilston Road where people came out of their homes to see what was going on.

As the entered the home one officer took pictures of the front door and footpath. At around 11.20am plain clothes detectives arrived at the property.
