Apple has surprised users with the release of the highly anticipated iOS 17.4 update, bringing a host of new features and improvements to compatible iPhone models. Unlike previous updates, many of the changes in this update were not pre-announced, adding an element of excitement for users.
To install the update, users with compatible devices such as iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone XR, and newer models can navigate to the Settings app, select General, and then Software Update to download and install iOS 17.4.

- EU-Specific Changes: In compliance with the Digital Markets Act, Apple has made significant changes for users in the 27 EU countries. This includes allowing alternative app markets, support for different browser engines, and alternative payment methods.
- Enhanced Security: The update introduces new encryption methods for iMessage to enhance security, making messages resistant to future hacking attempts, even by quantum computers. Stolen Device Protection has also been improved for added security.
- New Emoji: Users can enjoy six new emoji additions, including smileys, a phoenix, a chain, a mushroom, and a lime. Additionally, family emoji have been updated.
- Improved Siri Functionality: Siri can now read messages in multiple languages, expanding its capabilities. Battery lifespan health information is now more accessible in the Battery settings.
- Other Updates: The update includes features such as the ability to turn off Reactions in video calls, support for transcripts in Apple Podcasts, and a redesigned Apple Podcasts app.
While more updates are expected before iOS 18 arrives later this year, iOS 17.4 is set to be a significant update for iPhone users, offering a range of new functionalities and enhancements.
