A California grandpa who interrupted thieves trying to steal the catalytic converter from a neighbor's car was shot and killed, and his final moments trying to flag down help were captured on video.

Juan Sanchez was headed to work at 3:22 a.m. last week when he heard a noise, according to KABC-7. Sanchez saw the thieves, attempted to intervene, and was killed.

Sanchez attempted to flag down a passing fire truck for help as the events unfolded, the New York Post reported.

Sanchez left behind a wife, two children and a grandchild, KABC-7 reported. The station reported that he worked at Clean Harbors and had recently completed a project within the Palisades Fire zone. He also volunteered at his church.

"Johnny was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a cherished friend to so many. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering love touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him," a GoFundMe page established for the family states.

"As his family grieves this unimaginable loss, we want to come together as a community to support them in their time of need. The sudden financial burdens can be overwhelming, and we hope to ease that burden so they can focus on healing and remembering the beautiful life Johnny lived," the page states.

Police are searching for a gold, 2002-2006 Toyota Camry sedan with tinted windows and a sunroof. Police stated that the car's left front fog light is out, KABC-7 reported.
