On Thursday, anti-Israel demonstrators at MIT caused disruptions by blocking the exit of a parking garage near Stata Center. Reports indicate that protesters not only obstructed the path but also engaged in aggressive behavior, including jumping on top of cars and verbally assaulting police officers.
Both MIT campus police and Cambridge police intervened to address the situation, leading to the detention of several demonstrators. At least two individuals were arrested in connection with the incident. In response to the chaos, law enforcement officials established a barrier to facilitate the safe exit of vehicles from the garage.
Despite calls from the administration to disband, an anti-Israel encampment persisted on the campus at Kresge lawn. This defiance came on the heels of the school's decision to start issuing suspensions to the protesters.
Meanwhile, pro-Israel student demonstrators staged a counter-protest by placing flags representing the Jewish nation on the grass near the encampment. This symbolic gesture was made in anticipation of Israel's upcoming independence day next week.
