Andhra Pradesh: Decentralised administration awaits, says Tirupati Collector

K. Venkataramana Reddy, who took over as Collector of the newly-formed Tirupati district, announced that the region will now witness quicker development through decentralised administration.

Mr. Reddy, who offered prayers at the Tirumala temple ahead of the swearing-in, said it was a privilege to become its first Collector. Speaking to the Chief Minister over video-conference, he said the infrastructure was in place to ensure systematic development of Tirupati in a planned manner.

The district, with 34 mandals, has been carved out with 20 mandals from Chittoor district and 14 from Nellore district. The new district has four revenue divisions, and a population of around 19 lakh. Member of Parliament M. Gurumoorthy and legislators Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy (Chandragiri), Koneti Adimoolam (Satyavedu) and Kiliveti Sanjeevaiah (Sullurpeta) greeted the Collector.

The male to female ratio is evenly balanced in the new district, and the reorganisation has given Rayalaseema access to the sea coast for the first time, thus giving it scope for development in the marine sector.

P. Parameswara Reddy assumed office as the Superintendent of Police (Tirupati Urban), after taking charge from his predecessor Ch. Venkata Appala Naidu. District Revenue Officer M. Srinivasa Rao, RDOs V. Kanaka Narasa Reddy (Tirupati), Murali Krishna (Gudur) and D. Haritha (Srikalahasti) took part.
