American Tourist Killed By Elephant In Zambia

64-year-old U.S. tourist killed in elephant attack in Livingstone, Zambia.

A tragic incident occurred in the Zambian city of Livingstone, where a 64-year-old U.S. tourist lost her life in an elephant attack. The unfortunate event took place on Wednesday when the tourist, identified as Juliana Gle Tourneau from New Mexico, was part of a group observing a herd of elephants near the Maramba Cultural Bridge.

According to local officials, the tourists had stopped their vehicle due to the traffic caused by the elephant herd. Suddenly, one of the elephants attacked their vehicle, throwing Tourneau out and trampling her in the process. The incident resulted in her untimely death at around 17:50 that day.

This marks the second fatal elephant attack in Zambia this year. In March, another American tourist lost their life during a game drive in a Zambian national park. In that incident, an elephant charged at a truck, causing it to flip over, resulting in the death of the tourist and injuries to five others.

In light of these tragic events, Zambian authorities have issued a warning to all tourists to exercise extreme caution when observing wildlife in the country. The incidents serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of wild animals and the importance of adhering to safety guidelines while enjoying wildlife experiences.
