An alleged violent gatecrasher whose nose was bitten off at an Adelaide party has denied assaulting partygoers.
The South Australian District Court heard that about 15 gatecrashers attacked guests at a 2013 New Years Eve party in Panorama with knives and wood.
One alleged gatecrasher, a 21-year-old, had his nose bitten off by a person he had pinned to the ground.
The 21-year-old pleaded not guilty to aggravated causing harm with intent, aggravated assault and affray, along with 22-year-old Issac Derek Lee Parsons and another 19-year-old man who cannot be named because he was 17 at the time of alleged crime.
The party was set up with an East versus West theme in honour of visitors from Russia and included two marquees on a tennis court next to an Ottawa Avenue home.
Prosecutor Lisa Dunlop told the jury about 15 gatecrashers started attacking guests indiscriminately with weapons at about 1:30am.
She said the guests tried to reason with the gatecrashers and calm the situation.
"But that group, the gatecrashers, were not there to talk," she said.
"Some had bats, some had sticks or pieces of wood, some had knives."
Victorian police officer punched, court hears
Ms Dunlop said some guests, many of them dressed as celebrities including Michael Jordan, Olivia Newton John and Dame Edna, tried to fight back.
She said the gatecrashers yelled out: "Is there a party here? How come we didn't get invited? We own this street."
One victim was a police officer from Victoria who was punched after he held up his badge and identified himself.
Another guest needed more than 20 stitches to sew up his finger. Others were knocked unconscious.
Ms Dunlop said the party had been attended by families and children and had been trouble-free up until that moment.
"The lamb on the spit that had been cooking that night had been carved up, the food people brought to share had been enjoyed, the music was playing, the conversation was flowing," she said.
"It was a group of friends sitting around reflecting on a memorable night," she said.
The trial is expected to last up to three weeks.
