All Under One Banner plan march on BBC HQ in wake of court's indyref2 block

YES activists will march on BBC Scotland’s headquarters this weekend after the Supreme Court blocked indyref2.

All Under One Banner (AUOB) have announced their static protest outside the corporation’s Glasgow headquarters will now begin as a march, starting at McLellan Arch before setting off to Pacific Quay.

The group said that it was making the move in light of the “outrageous” decision by the UK’s highest court, which ruled on Wednesday Scotland did not have the right to hold a second referendum without Westminster’s permission.

AUOB had previously planned a rally outside the Pacific Quay headquarters of the broadcaster.

They tweeted: “Due to the outrageous decision by the UK Supreme court today and the strength of public feeling about this, we will now be marching to the BBC on Saturday.”

And they urged supporters: “Let's make it massive.”

Rallies took place across Scotland on Wednesday night – including one in Edinburgh where the First Minister made her first appearance at a Yes demonstration since 2019.

She told supporters: “Fundamentally, our job today is the same as it was yesterday.

"It is to persuade a majority of the Scottish people of the fact that independence is the best future for Scotland - and ensure a democratic process that allows majority support to be established beyond doubt.

"We have work to do. Let us inspire with hope in our hearts.

"With optimism, confidence and determination - let’s get on and finish the job. Together, let’s secure independence for Scotland.”

Police Scotland was approached for comment.

The march sets off from McLellan Arch, the main entrance to Glasgow Green at the Saltmarket, at 12.30pm.
